Lets Introduce ourselves…

A Space to Be… was a long running partnership project funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund and delivered by Hertfordshire County Council. The aim was for museums across the Hertfordshire to provide young people aged between 14 and 18 with the opportunity to engage with museum collections, and work with artists to create their own artwork inspired by history and their shared or individual experience.

Museums can play a valuable role in promoting good mental health and increasing wellbeing, and supporting Hertfordshire’s museums is one of the ways Hertfordshire County Council supports residents to have healthy, fulfilling, creative lives. A Space To Be…provided opportunities for young people to access heritage venues in a supported way, which allowed them to discover the benefits of visiting and working with creative organisations.

Here you can find out all about the project and discover helpful resources and organisations that can assist you in planning your own wellbeing activities.

Our Background

The project was designed as an early intervention for teenagers who were at risk of anxiety, or depression due to exam stress, but it has been equally effective in helping young people navigate the uncertainty of school closures and the cancellation of exams during the pandemic.
